Fans

How the Winds Blow

pumpsA fan has for years been a device to circulate and deliver air. Of late it has evolved into a glamour product with an ability to move air. However, a more significant change in its image will take place soon, when it will be positioned as an energy saving product following the implementation of BEE’s (Bureau of Energy Efficiency), energy labelling standards.

Industry sources say that this move, expected to become effective by March 2008, and prices of fan will increase. “However, Indian consumers will enjoy substantial savings in their electricity bills which could be as high as US$ 9 per fan per year for the most energy efficient fan,” says Sunil Wadhwa, chairman of the Indian Fan Manufacturers Association (www.indianfan.org) in a report. The association has recommended five levels of energy consumption standards, with the highest permissible consumption being 55W per hour, whereas the present industry average is around 70W per hour.
