sanitaryware

A World of Art

naturalHome to the ‘Than clay’, the prime material for the ceramic industry, Thangadh in the western state of Gujarat has evolved as the most prominent sanitary ware cluster in India. Located in the state’s Surendranagar district, it registers a modest annual turnover of US$ 30 million.

Despite being a small scale and labour intensive industry, Thangadh along with neighbouring Morbi accounts for nearly 60% of India’s total production capacity of 0.4 million metric tonnes. Thangadh itself provides direct and indirect employment to 15,000-20,000 men.
